How to Record Satellite Television Programme Using the Strong Decoder

There will be some programmes showing on your Satellite Television receiver that you will like to record for your use. This guide shows you a step-by-step guide to get this done easily.

Follow the simple steps below to record Satellite TV programme of your choice:

  1. Insert USB storage device into the USB port of the Strong decoder.

  2. Switch on the Strong Decoder and Television set.

  3. Tune to the Satellite TV broadcast you want to record.

  4. Press the Record button ( ) on the Remote controller (Recording notification pops up on the Television screen).

  5. At the end of the programme you want to record, press the Stop button ( ) on the Remote Controller.

Note the following:

  • The recorded video file is in TypeScript Source format.

  • The recorded video is saved with the name of TV Channel you recorded from with date and time stamp

  • As a guide, the size of a minute video recording is about 12.6MB.

How to Convert The Recorded File To MP4 Format

The recorded file from the Strong Decoder has a .ts (TypeScript) file extension which can be played back through the decoder. This .ts file format is not playable by the common PC video application softwares, there is need to convert the file to a format that is readily playable.

To do this we will use a free video processing software called Handbrake. Handbrake is a very capable video processing application software with some exceptional features. You can download it for free here => Download Handbrake.

We will be converting the recorded video file with the .ts file extension to MP4 format. To do this follow the steps below:

  1. Launch Handbrake

  1. Click on Source.

  2. Select file and navigate to the .ts video file you saved.

  3. Click on Browse under Destination to select location for converted file and enter a name.

  4. Click on Start (to start the conversion).

    Note the following:

  • You have the option to save as MP4 or MKV file format (it takes about 20 seconds for a 1 minute file to convert to MP4/MKV).

  • For the 1 minute video recording of 12.6 MB size mentioned above, the output MP4 file is 10.2MB using the Normal setting on the Handbrake software. The video frame width is 720 and height 574 for the default normal setting.

The MP4 file output can be played by all devices with MP4 playback capability. You may decide to burn it on CD using Video burning software of your choice.
